Le Cœur de la méditation est un livre de référence du Dalaï-lama, publié en anglais en avril 2016, et en français en juin 2017.

C’est la transcription de 5 enseignements donnés par le Dalaï-lama en juillet 1984 à l’Abbaye de Westminster à Londres, au cours desquels il a commenté le poème de Patrül Rinpoche (1808-1887) sur la Vue, la Méditation et l’Action. Jeffrey Hopkins, qui avait assuré l’interprétariat en anglais, en a supervisé l’édition 32 ans plus tard.

Dans la préface de sa traduction française, Sofia Stril-Rever explique :

Dans son commentaire des Trois mots qui frappent le point vital, le Dalaï-lama s’exprime en tant que maître accompli de Dzogchen, la Grande perfection. Dans un style simple et direct, il donne à ses lecteurs une transmission expérientielle de rigpa, en tibétain, vidya, en sanskrit. Sur le Toit du monde, rigpa fut glosé dans la tradition héritée de l’Inde par des générations de sages parvenus aux confins de la sagesse, comme « esprit inné primordial de claire lumière », « sagesse innée de primordiale de claire lumière », « espace vajra pénétrant l’espace » ou encore « esprit joyau », comme lorsque l’on dit : « Sans esprit-joyau, il n’y a ni Bouddha ni être sensible ».

Les formules diffèrent pour tenter d’exprimer l’inexprimable. Le Dalaï-lama, quant à lui, choisit de traduire rigpa par « l’esprit le plus secret » ou, littéralement, « l’esprit le plus intérieur ». Dans sa présentation de rigpa, il nous dévoile la cime des enseignements de l’école Nyingma, la plus ancienne des quatre écoles du bouddhisme tibétain.

THE HEART OF MEDITATION

The Heart of Meditation is a reference book by the Dalai Lama, published in English in April 2016, in French in June 2017.

It is the transcription of 5 teachings given by the Dalai Lama in July 1984 at Westminster Abbey in London, where he commented on the poem by Patrul Rinpoche (1808-1887) on View, Meditation and Action.
Jeffrey Hopkins, who was the English interpreter, edited them 32 years later.

In the preface to her French translation, Sofia Stril-Rever explained :

In his commentary on The Three Words that Strike the Vital Point, the Dalai Lama expresses himself as the accomplished master of Dzogchen, the Great Perfection. In a simple and straightforward style, he gives his readers an experiential transmission of rigpa, Tibetan, vidya, Sanskrit. On the Roof of the World, rigpa was glossed in the tradition inherited from India by generations of sages who had reached the confines of wisdom, as "primordial innate mind of clear light", "primordial innate wisdom of clear light", "vajra space penetrating space" or "jewel mind", as when it is said : "Without a jewel mind, there is neither Buddha nor sentient being".

The formulas differ in an attempt to express the inexpressible. The Dalai Lama, on the other hand, chooses to translate rigpa as "the innermost awareness”. In his presentation of rigpa, he reveals the pinnacle of the teachings of the Nyingma school, the oldest of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
